Fertilizer dust removal

Removing particulate material from Urea dust-laden gas exhausting from prilling towers and granulation plants

Controlling urea dust in the fertilizer industry

Urea, the main nitrogen source in fertilizers, is produced by synthesis from liquid ammonia and gaseous carbon dioxide. Prilling and granulation are the final steps of the urea production process.

Urea dust emissions from prilling towers and fluidized granulation plants cause a major problem for the environment. Socrematic has more than 45 years experience in designing and engineering antipollution systems treating the gas exhaust in the fertilizer industry:

  • Prilling towers
    Ammonium Nitrate (AN)
    Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN)
    Urea
  • Fluidized granulation plants
    Ammonium Nitrate (AN)
    Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN)
    Urea
  • Sandvik rotoform pastilles
    Urea
    Urea + Ammonium Sulphate (UAS)
  • Phosphoric acid plants
    Phosphoric Acid Digester Exhaust

Wet scrubbing for neutralizing free ammonia in urea reactor

The main source of pollution in urea plants resides in the prilling tower and the granulation plant, which releases large quantities of very fine urea dust into the atmosphere.

By injecting sulfuric acid or nitric acid into the urea reactor re-circulation loop, our cutting-edge wet-scrubbing WATMONIA® technology effectively neutralizes the free ammonia liberated from melt/solid urea, ensuring the neutralization of harmful pollutants and making sure your plant operates safely and responsibly.

With over 40 fertilizer plant references and more than 70 scrubbers installed, SOCREMATIC has the expertise and knowledge to design custom solutions tailored to your specific needs.

Our team of experts will work closely with you to determine the optimal treatment for your plant, taking into consideration the quantity of gas to be treated, dust concentration, ammonia, and gas temperature.

We offer single, double, or triple staged solutions for urea abatement, ammonia abatement, and cooling processes, either combined or separately, ensuring maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
